By Scott Everly
Most of us can point to specific people or events that have influenced our choices and made an impact on how we live our lives. For me, it was the inspiration and example of my father that led me to where I am today. I grew up surrounded by the world of finance and learned early on about the positive effect a solid financial plan can have on one’s future. My father, Arthur Everly, co-founded Wealth Management Resources, Inc., a company that has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Seeing how my father helped people achieve financial success and the appreciation they have shown him in return has made a lasting impression. Ultimately, I want to provide value in others’ lives by helping them build a solid financial foundation. It was my father’s example, and the realization of how I could also impact people’s lives for the better, that led me to choose to continue in my father’s footsteps and pursue a career as a financial advisor.
Stepping Into My Father’s Shoes
In 2015, with a clear career path in mind, I joined Wealth Management Resources as a financial advisor, and in 2017 moved into the role of executive vice president. I get to work (officially now) alongside my father and the rest of the team as I learn and build upon my skills.
As of January 2016, I have been working to further my education in this profession by studying to earn my Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designations through the American College of Financial Services. While I know these credentials will increase my knowledge and expertise, I am fortunate to have started my education in this field from an early age by learning from my father. I continue to learn more every day, gleaning from the expertise of the other advisors at the firm who are Certified Financial Planner™ professionals.
Whether I’m working with our broker-dealer or our investment advisory customers, I strive to help my clients reach their financial objectives. I do this by first taking the time to get to know them and understand their unique situation so I can devise a custom strategy that will help them accomplish their financial goals. A financial advisor plays an important role in a client’s life, impacting their family, business, and other areas of life in a significant way. I understand this responsibility and appreciate the opportunity to affect positive change in the lives of my clients.
Why I Love What I Do
There are many rewarding aspects of this career, but for me the best part of the job is receiving appreciation from my clients when I help them create a solid financial plan and they begin to see their goals and dreams realized. Every so often, client meetings can be challenging when we’re attempting to clarify their goals and find a solution to their unique situation. But I absolutely love it when a client’s financial plan comes together that accomplishes their goals and they feel a sense of relief and joy that is contagious. This is what makes all the hard work and effort worthwhile.
